Kudzu Playhouse is excited to officially announce the lineup for its 2018 Season: 1984 (February 9 – 18, 2018), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (July 13 – 22, 2018) and Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr. (November 2018). The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr. are regional premieres for the Mid-South!
The season will open on February 9 with George Orwell’s 1984. Winston Smith is a member of the Outer Party. He works in the Records Department in the Ministry of Truth, rewriting and distorting history. To escape Big Brother’s tyranny, at least inside his own mind, Winston begins a diary — an act punishable by death. This multi-award winning adaptation of George Orwell’s ultimate dystopian novel continues to resonate throughout the world. 1984 will run from February 9 – 18, 2018, at the Hernando Performing Arts Center.
Beginning July 13, The Hunchback of Notre Dame will set bells to ringing! Based on the classic Victor Hugo novel and songs from the beloved Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s new book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel. The Hunchback of Notre Dame will run from July 13 – 22, 2018, at the Hernando Performing Arts Center.
Rounding out the season with an all-youth Kidzu production in November (final dates TBD) will be Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr! Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr. follows all of your favorite “crack-a-lackin’” friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar. Kidzu productions are all-youth shows with young performers aged 6-18.
All performances will take place at the Hernando Performing Arts Center, 805 Dilworth Ln., Hernando, MS. For more information and to purchase season and individual show tickets, please visit https://www.kudzuplayers.com
